Implementing Continuous Discovery

To foster a strong and scalable research program, I evaluated all of our current practices against the 8 pillars of research ops. After leveling up a few areas, my ops process was adopted by each dept and can easily adapt when needed.

ROLE

Lead

Objectives

Improve our research capacity through a holistic view of our needs and available tools, by setting up frameworks and training teammates.

Execution

Lay the Groundwork:

  • Created a RACI matrix to clarify roles across departments

  • Confirmed current tools are the best fit

Build the Framework: Set up an accessible repository for all research-related documents and monitored the incoming data.

Do the work:

  • Write research and test plans

  • Ensure users are comfortable in our research

  • Communicate with testers—making sure everyone has the right legal documents signed and knows what is expected of them

  • Code interviews

  • Incentivize users after participation

  • Edit video content

Collaboration

To serve company-wide needs, I iterate on the process by asking:

  • What are the challenges?

  • What works well?

  • What could be improved?

  • Who engages with research?

  • What are the external and organisational constraints?

Impact

  • Matured our organization's research efforts

  • Improved decision making

  • Brought departments together in collaboration

Reflection

I truly enjoy the role of supporting research. I know that because we now have a set of rules, tools, and presence of scope, our research will only become more targeted, efficient, and valuable.
